    Belgium '99

In May 1999 I left my born land for 14 days. I went to Belgium with lace teacher Jana Silhanova.

    Antwerpen cathedral

In Beveren, where we stayed they celebrated 20 years anniversary of their lace makeing school with international exhibiton. From the foreign lacemakers there were English, Danish, Spain, Germany, Slovakia, etc. Offcourse there was quit a bit Belgic lace makers.

The exhibition was in about 5 places in Beveren. But the hearth was in watercastle Cortewalle, where was also our display. In the castle is lace making school and on the second floor there is a lace museum. To the beautiful garden belong peacocks, who founded interest in slavak biscuits :-)

We had for Czech Republic whole one room, where I had also so my laces, which I have made along school paterns.

It was really nice to spent 2 weeks with bobbinlace makers from all over the Europe... We made also a few trips in Antwerpen. We saw Van Dyk's exhibition in Ruben's house, went for excursion to nuclear power plant in Doel and of course visited all typical Antwerpen lace shops.

About after 6 years I met again my Belgic friend Christine who came over to visit me in the watercastle. I met her when she came to Czech Republic for the first international bobbin lace makers meeting in Vamberk.

Even though the 14 days were really nice and everybody was amazed about our laces, I was really excited to go back home and have my Dad's pork-dumpling-sauerkraut.
